Aussies see new ball as key to Kandy Test win
Kandy (Sri Lanka), Sep. 12 : Australia sees the use of the new ball as the key to winning the second Test against Sri Lanka on the fifth day here on Monday.
Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin said the new ball would be crucial in determining whether Australia can win the game or have to settle for a draw.
"It''s a good wicket but it''s up to us to make sure we make things happen. With that we''ve got to make sure with the new ball that we''re getting them driving and making sure we''re trying to create chances either behind the wicket or possibly even some short catches," said Haddin.
"It''s important that we bowl well with the new ball and get the new ball up there, make them play as much as we possibly can to have a real red-hot crack," he added.
Sri Lankan veteran Kumar Sangakkara, who is playing his 99th Test and was unbeaten on 69, said it would be a shame if Sri Lanka could not save the match after Sunday's exploits.
"We can call it a turning point if we bat out (Monday)," Sangakkara said, addind: "That''s the real key, forget about the third Test for now and concentrate on the fifth day of the Test match."
"We''ve got everything to bat for and everything to play for. Test matches are fantastic contests, you''ve got to enjoy it, you''ve got to take a lot of pride in what you do and that''s what comes out in tough situations," he added. (ANI)
