Aurobindo Pharma receives Swissmedic approval

AurobindoSwissmedic, Switzerland government agency for therapeutic products, has allowed India based Aurobindo Pharma Limited for marketing and branding amlodipine and metformin tablets. The drug manufacturer has already two drugs approved by Swiss drug regulator, Swissmedic.

The company, on Monday, also got approval from US drug regulator, the U. S. Food and Drug Administration for its product Risperidone oral solution, a drug used in the treatment of schizophrenia. Risperdal is a brand of Johnson & Johnson's Ortho-McNeil-Janssen which is a generic version of Risperdal oral solution 1mg/ml of Ortho- McNeil Janssen.

The drug with market size of about Rs 333.3 crore comes under neurological segment and it would soon hit market according to company's filing before the BSE.

Amlodipine is an anti-hypertension drug that falls under cardio vascular disorder therapeutic segment. It is also used with other drugs to cure angina pectoris. Melformin is a trusted drug used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus (type 2) in adults and children.

Shares of the drug maker surged 1.46 per cent and closed at Rs 705.85 on Monday as compared to Rs 695.7 at the Bombay Stock Exchange.
