AT&T to be first US carrier to offer LG Optimus G
In a recent official announcement, bigwig US wireless carrier AT&T revealed that it would be selling the LG Optimus G --- the first handset featuring the speedy new quad-core 1.5-GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor from Qualcomm.
Even though AT&T refrained from disclosing the exact date of availability of the LG's flagship superphone Optimus G, or its expected price, the announcement nonetheless makes AT&T the first US carrier to offer LG's new LTE-capable handset.
Other than the Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, some of the key features of the Optimus G to be sold by AT&T will include 4.7-inch, 1,280-by-768 IPS screen; 2GB of RAM; 32GB on-board storage capacity; and Android version 4.0 `Ice Cream Sandwich' at launch.
While LG had said in a September announcement that the Optimus G will be available in two camera options - 8-megapixel and 13-megapixel -, the press release by AT&T has made a mention of only the 8-megapixel camera variant.
Noting that Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 chipset powering the Optimus G will, unlike its Tegra 3 and Exynos counterparts, boast compatibility with the 4G LTE networks offered by AT&T, Jeff Bradley - SVP of Devices at AT&T - said that the LG Optimus G will allow the AT&T customers to "work and play as hard as they want."
Further adding that the new quad-core processor has been designed to deliver "a great multitasking experience," Bradley said: "We think customers will really enjoy having the power of a computer in the palm of their hand."
