Apple makes quiet changes to iOS 6's App Store app formatting
In its recently-rolled-out updated App Store for iOS 6 beta users, Apple has made some quiet changes to the App Store app formatting of the iOS, bringing on a new ‘search results’ format which has apparently been inspired by the Chomp ‘search and app discovery’ startup that it acquired earlier this year.
The new search results format introduced by Apple appears to be notably attractive on the surface level, but is seemingly a lot more annoying to use. With Apple doing away with the old list of app results and swapping it with separate, swipe-able "pages" for individual app results, the change clearly implies ‘less app results per glance.’
However, the new design also underscores some good intentions, as the swipe from one app to another is quite similar to changing Safari tabs on the iPhone. In addition, the new format gives the users an actual screenshot of the app, together with the usual icon, app name, cost, and reviews.
With the new search results on the iPhone showing up in one single tile result which the users can swipe to move to each new result, it is evident that the new format draws from the Chomp iOS app that made use of a similar tile system in search results.
While some users feel that browsing through several results is a frustratingly slow process, a 9to5Mac report has revealed that Apple has also made some other changes in App Store functionality, like the introduction of Genius support, Podcast search, and Purchased section.
