Apple begins recall of first generation iPod nanos
Technology giant, Apple has started the replacement porgramme for first generation iPod nano devices because the battery in some units could overheat.
Apple was earlier planning to replace the device with the same nano but it is now replacing the older version with the current sixth generation model instead. According to rumors on the internet, Apple is set to confirm the replacement of older version nano devices with the current version of the music player.
It was expected that Apple will replace the players with refurbished first generation nanos and not the newer ones. However, it is believed that at least some of the users will receive the newer version of the players.
The nanos with sixth generation serial numbers are being dispatched to the customers. Some say that Apple may provide the older version with new serial numbers that are updated to match the sixth generation units.
Apple had informed the first generation iPod nano users to avoid using their devices because of the battery issues. The company said in an email that it has “determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006.”
