AirAsia India may suffer further delay
The launch of AirAsia India may suffered further delay as the Indian government has asked all persons likely to be affected by the airline to raise their objections, if any, to granting of commercial licence to the airline.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a public notice asking all persons to submit their suggestions or objections to the regulator within 30 days.
The JV airline became subject to fresh public objection notice despite having been cleared by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) and gaining no-objection certificate (NOC) from Civil Aviation Ministry.
DGCA's notice, issued on Monday, stated, ""In order to comply with the requirements of Schedule XI of Aircraft Rules 1937, a notice is hereby given to the public and all the persons likely to be affected by the grant of this permit to submit their objections or suggestions. within Thirty Days of the issue of this notice."
The low-cost airline had filed its application with the regulator for the Air Operators Permit in October last year, two weeks after it got the NOC from the civil aviation ministry.
AirAsia India is a joint venture among Malaysia's AirAsia, India's Tata Sons and Arun Bhatia of Telstra Tradeplace. While AirAsia would own 49 per cent stake in the JV, Tatas and Arun Bhatia will own 30 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively.
