Advani terms Maharashtra as a state of record suicides by farmers

Advani terms Maharashtra as a state of record suicides by farmersPune/Aurangabad, Oct 8 : BJP leader L K Advani has termed the state of Maharashtra the record holder for most cases of suicide by the farmers.

The elections to the legislature of Maharashtra are scheduled to be held on October 13.

"In India, Maharashtra holds a record that is for the most number of suicidal cases of the farmers," said Advani in an election rally.

In Maharashtra, hundreds of farmers, mostly cotton growers, have committed suicide in the past five years. The suicides are still continuing despite various attempts by the State and the Central Governments to mitigate their financial woes and offer debt-relief from the creditors.

He also lashed out at the Central Government for being inefficient to curb inflation.

This has been caused because of growing corruption in the country, Advani said.

"The main reason behind price rise is corruption. The government cannot eradicate corruption, cannot stop price rise and electricity woes. Until they understand this reality, there won''t be any development," he added. (ANI)
