The latest ‘n’ hottest news from the tech world is that Acer is currently working on several Android operating system based devices, including an Android smartphone, which the company is planning to launch this year.

Up to now, the executive of Acer have been shyly giving clues that the company is considering the Android operating system for several devices, but for the first time, the Acer president and CEO Gianfranco Lanci has confirmed that the company is working to develop several Android based devices.    

Speaking at the Acer’s first-quarter investor’s conference in Taipei on Wednesday, Gianfranco Lanci said, “The entire industry is looking at Android (which includes Acer also). We are testing Android on a lot of different solutions. We are working on an Android solution for the smartphone, but I think it’s too early to say if we’re going to see Android on a netbook in the near future.”

Definitely, Lanci’s statement has confirmed that the company is cooking Android based smartphone and several other devices. However, it is still unknown that whether the “other devices” include Android based netbook. The company has declined to reveal the information about other devices that the company is working on. Acer company has also not disclosed much info about its Android based smartphone; the company hasn’t yet leaked any info on its features, price, and launch time. However, according to market reports, the launch is expected to be in September this year.

And, as far as Android is concerned, the operating system is growing in popularity. The mobile device manufacturers are increasingly considering Android operating system for smartphones. So, the number of Android based smartphones is expected to grow in the time to come. T-Mobile USA has already claimed that it has successfully sold one million Android based G1 smartphones.
