Abhijeet Sawant On A Roll!
When Abhijeet Sawant became the first Indian Idol in 2005, it was a time when reality shows were finding their way on television.
In 2008, when reality shows are common on every channel, Abhijeet is again part of the Star Plus’s music reality show ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar’.
Abhijeet said, “The Indian tendency is – jo cheez chal jaati hai, usko dus baar chalaate hain.”
“But the USP of this show is that all singers in this show are the winners and runners-up from other reality shows, so that’s where the freshness of the concept lies,” he added
The singer is satisfied with his journey thus far.
He said, “I didn’t think I would get a good start like this so early in my career. This platform came really early and I’m really grateful to God for it.”
The only thing Abhijeet’s delighted about is that he has managed to stand back from contentions.
He said with a smiling face, “Although some or the other thing happens once in a while. But more or less, I stay away from them. I lead a simple life and I’m happily married, so I guess that helps.”
Sawant, whose voice was widely appreciated in the movie ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ and the album ‘Junoon’, is set to change his 'romantic' image with his acting debut in Lottery.
His debut film ‘Lottery’ is a romantic thriller and Abhijeet is very excited about it. He has been cast opposite television actor Rucha Gujarati and newcomer Manisha Kelkar in the film.
“The character I play is an underdog; he’s an accountant working in a fashion magazine. Some strange things happen in his life which he finds himself trapped,” he explained.
But Abhijeet is clear that more than acting, it’s playback singing he’s focusing on.
“Talks are on for anchoring shows on television but nothing has been finalised as yet,” he said.
