Aberdeen Asset Management seeks $150 million in damages from Satyam
Mahindra Satyam ah said that a group of investors led by Aberdeen Asset Management are seeking more than $150 million from the company to compensate for the losses suffered by them on acount of the scandal that hit the company a few years ago.
Mahindra Satyam was earlier known as Satyam Computer Services and was founded by B Ramalinga Raju, who admitted in 2009 to allegations that the company manipulated its account books and inflated balance sheets. Raju had taken the Indian business community and everyone else by surprise in 2009 when he revealed that the company’s profits had been overstated for years and that more than $1.5 billion worth of assets have been falsified.
Aberdeen Global and the other investors wrote in a notice sent to Mahindra Satyam that they have filed a complaint against the company before the High Court of Justice, Queen' Bench Division of Commercial Court in the UK. The group is also seeking an interest of 8 per cent on the amount.
The new complaint will raise issues for the Mahindra Satyam, which recently announced its merger with Tech Mahindra. The merge had resulted in the creation of the fifth largest software services exporter in terms of market value.
Mahindra Satyam had stated that Aberdeen Asset Management and certain non-US claimant-funds had given notice of potential proceedings against the company for the losses. The copany officials have indicated that it will respond after consulting with its legal advisers.
