Abby Sunderland ready to sail again

Abby Sunderland ready to sail againShe will "definitely" sail some more, says Abby Sunderland, the Southern California teenager rescued at sea during an attempt to sail solo around the world.

The Los Angeles Times has reported that 16 years old Sunderland, meeting with reporters on Tuesday at Marina del Rey, Calif., described the storm that snapped the 60-foot mast off her 40-foot yacht Wild Eyes, leaving her adrift in the Pacific Ocean for two days until she was rescued June 12 by the crew of a French fishing vessel.

She was below, working on the engine after strong gales had subsided, when her sails caught a giant wave and the boat rolled upside-down and immediately righted, she said.

According to her, she blacked out for a moment and then went to check on the boat.

She said of her broken mast, "When I got outside, there was nothing there. It was a 1-inch stub. There was nothing to jury-rig."

Criticism of her parents for allowing her to attempt the voyage was "extremely hurtful," Sunderland said.

She further said, "I have sailed 12,000 miles, and I'm proud of my achievements. The more I sail, the more I like sailing. I'm definitely going to do more."

It was further notified by Sunderland that her family would not participate in a TV show or documentary about her story but she said she is considering writing a book.

The Times also reported that first, she said, she wants to finish high school and get her driver's license. (With Inputs from Agencies)
