5 schemes to boost industries

As the vote-on-account session ends, DNA sums up what transpired in the House on the last day

As the special vote-on-account session that began on February 17 came to an end on Friday, the BJP government announced five industrial incentive schemes in the state assembly under rule 44 of the House. These schemes come after nearly two months of the announcement of the new industrial policy 2009.

Minister of state for industry and finance, Saurabh Patel, announced the schemes. They are: scheme of assistance to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), scheme of assistance to gems & jewellery sector, scheme of assistance to textile & apparel sector, scheme for enhancement of technical competence and manpower, and scheme for improving industrial infrastructure.

Under the MSME scheme, the government will offer interest benefit, assistance for improving quality of micro and small industry, assistance for research and development, assistance for energy and water conservation. The scheme aims to help the sick units.

Under the gem & jewellery scheme, the government will help in establishing jewellery parks, help in establishing hallmark certification and testing centres, and will give interest benefits for attracting more new units.

Under the textile & apparel scheme, the government will give interest subsidy in buying machinery and help in skill upgradation of workers. These benefits will be in addition to the central government scheme.

Under the enhancement of technical competence and manpower scheme, the government will establish ITI and polytechnic extension centres as per the needs of large scale-units, which will help in generating qualified staff and employment. The government will design short-term courses as per the requirements of large units. The government will take help of premier educational institutes like IIT and IIM for this.

Under the improvement of industrial infrastructure scheme, the government will help in developing private industrial clusters and industrial colonies through critical infrastructure development scheme. The state government will also provide viability gap funding for developing industrial parks.
