4.2 Million American Adults Admit to drunk driving during Last 30 days
A new survey by the CDC has found that more than four million American adults have admitted to drunk driving at times. As many as 4.2 million adults have confessed to driving after being drunk in the past days.
In the study, people below 18 years were not included. In 2013, more than 10,000 people have died in vehicle crashes across the nation that involved driver who had consumed more than permissible amount of liquor.
The rate of drink and drive cases different as per states. To cite a few examples, the incidents of drink and drive were highest in the US Midwest and Hawaii and were the lowest in Utah. Researchers said who indulged into binge-drinking were having more chances of driving under influence.
Study researchers said, “Alcohol-impaired driving crashes account for approximately one third of all crash fatalities in the United States. Taken together, these findings suggest that fatalities among alcohol-impaired drivers could be substantially reduced if every state had a primary seat belt law”.
Out of 100, men were found to be guilty for drink and drive in 80% of the cases. Also, the men in the age group of 21 and 34 years were the most involved in these cases. The researchers reached at the conclusion by observing a 2012 data, which stated that a typical drunk driver in America is a young male having a history of binge drinking.
Dr. Scott Krakower, alcohol abuse issue specialist, said people should not be afraid to seek help if they are drunk.
