Lahore, Apr. 5 : At least 35 persons were reportedly killed and over 150 others injured in a suicide attack on an Imambargah in Chakwal area of Pakistan’s Punjab province on Sunday.
The blast took place in a huge public gathering where over a thousand persons had assembled for an annual prayer, Majlis Aza.
The injured persons have been admitted to the District Headquarter Hospital. Releif and rescue work were going on in full swing till the news last filtered-in.
Police officials and the DCO of the area were supervising the relief work, The News reported.
None of the terror outfits has taken the responsibility of the attack.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has strongly condemned the suicide attack.
Addressing media persons here, just after the blast, Gilani said concerned authorities have already started their investigation to find out the perpetrators.
In reply to a query, Gilani said that involvement of foreign terrorists such as the Afghans, Uzbeks, and Arabs could not be ruled out in the recent spate of terror strikes across the country.
Intelligence sources had revealed on Saturday that nine militants have sneaked into Punjab and are planning to carry out attacks similar to the Manawan police training academy strike.
The group of terrorists includes two would-be suicide bombers aged 20 and 22 years respectively, the report had warned. (ANI)
