21-years-old sperm of father takes form of a baby girl
The birth of Stella Biblis on March 4 was the clear evidence of advancement in infertility treatment and wonders it can do for childless couples. Stella was born from sperm of her father that was frozen 21 years ago.
Chris Biblis, 38, of Charlotte, was treated for leukemia between the ages of 13 and 18. Chris's mother encouraged 16-years-old boy to freeze some of his sperm which was done on April 25, 1986 at Xytex International Ltd. in Atlanta.
With the help of infertility techniques, Biblis sperm was unfrozen. Doctor first injected the sperm cell into a human egg in a lab setting in 1992.
REACH founder and fertility specialist Dr. Richard L. Wing said: "They achieved pregnancy on their first cycle of intracytoplasmic sperm injection used in conjunction with IVF, a now-routine procedure for male infertility, using her eggs and his frozen sperm."
