20 injured in Durga puja tent collapse in Tripura
Agartala, Sept 30 : At least 20 persons, including children and women, were injured when a makeshift Durga puja tent collapsed due to strong wind here last night.
The incident took place when the tent was full of devotees who had come to seek blessings from Goddess Durga at the end of the Durga Puja festival.
According to the eyewitnesses, hundreds of people were inside the tent, which was a replica of Mumbai''s Taj Hotel tragedy, the site of terror attacks, when the bamboo scaffolding collapsed.
Many people were trapped under the debris. They were rescued by the residents and the police.
The injured were rushed to the GB Panth Memorial Hospital.
"All of a sudden the pandal started falling. I was inside along with hundred of other people. Many fell under the bamboo scaffolding," said Gauri, an eyewitness.
According to the police, ten women, five men and five children were injured in the mishap.
"The figure which we have got, include ten female, five male and five children. All the injuries appear to me simple in nature," said Bijoy Nag, Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Meanwhile, disaster management team had reached the spot and search operation was still underway to rescue if anyone was still trapped under the debris. (ANI)
