19 Congress MLA of Chhattisgarh Assembly suspended

Chhattisgarh Assembly suspendedRaipur, Feb 20 : Nineteen legislators of the Opposition Congress were suspended from the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Wednesday after they trooped into the well of the House demanding the resignation of State Home and Jail Minister Ram Vichar Netam.

Immediately after the Question Hour, the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) members attempted to move an adjournment motion on the Dantewada jailbreak incident on December 16, in which 300 inmates, including 105 Naxalites had escaped.

The opposition members also accused jail officials of lax security arrangements.

Netam said action had been taken against erring officials and termed the opposition’s allegations as baseless.

Following this, the chair asked the opposition to put forth their arguments for acceptance of the motion.

However, they opposed it and pressed for discussion on the adjournment motion.

Deputy Speaker Badirdhar Diwan suspended the legislators from the House on the basis of a rule, which provides for automatic suspension of any member entering the well of the House. (ANI)
