Zee inches closer to Colors
The osmosis of gross rating points (GRPs) amongst the top general entertainment channels (GEC) continues.
The last week (Week 7 of 2009) saw some notable action, with the current No 3, Zee TV, closing in on the current No 2, Colors. Zee's ratings had been on the decline in Week 5 and Week 6, but the channel has covered up in the previous week, notching up 208 GRPs, which makes the channel just 51 GRPs away from Colors.
Zee's share increased by 2% to 18%, even as that of current leader Star Plus fell 1% to reach 24%, while that of Colors fell 1% to reach 22%, according to data supplied by TAM Media Research on C&S 4+ years, (HSM).
It is clear that two Zee shows — Chhoti Bahu and Betiyaan-Ghar Ki Lakshmi — have been throwing up good ratings for the channel. Chhoti Bahu, which airs on weekdays at 7:30 pm, garnered a rating of 4.36 in Week 7. Betiyaan-Ghar Ki Lakshmi, which airs at 10 pm on weekdays, delivered a rating of 3.45. Even the newly launched reality show Dance India Dance has done good for the channel.
Star Plus, with a channel share of 24% is at the No 1 spot with 278 GRPs, a fall of 22 GRPs from the previous week — with Colors now just 19 GRPs away. Even Colors lost 12 GRPs in the previous week.
Meanwhile, Sony with 76 GRPs is at the No 4 spot with a 7% channel share, up by 1% from the previous week. Both NDTV Imagine and Star One share the No 6 spot, each having a 5% share and 62 and 63 GRPs, respectively.
