‘Yuvvraaj’ Fails To Click On Box Office
It seems that Showman Subhash Ghai's recently released Salman-Katrina starrer ‘Yuvvraaj’ has failed to set box office on fire.
Despite no major rivalry from other sides, ‘Yuvvraaj’ garnered advance bookings of just 35% in major multiplexes, which placed the film in the group of big-budget failures with its cost being in the range of Rs 45 - 50 crore.
According to trade experts, the collections of ‘Yuvvraaj’ will slide from Monday onwards, going by its box-office show during the first two days of its release.
They told that though the movie had no-holds-barred promotion, what it misses is originality value in the storyline to hold the interest of the younger generation of cinegoers.
A trade analyst said, “Despite all his experience in filmmaking, director Subhash Ghai seems to be out of sync with the changing trends in filmmaking in Bollywood today.”
The world-wide distribution rights for the film were sold by Mukta Arts to Eros International for more than Rs 60 crore. Being a big-budget movie, it saw a wide-release with about 1,000 prints.
At the small town single-screen cinema halls, the film is doing better as compared to multiplexes in big cities and metros.
In comparison, Dostana, which was released during the last week, is making good collections across India even during the second week of its run.
“While ‘Dostana’ will have by then made its pile of box-office revenues, the loser may be ‘Yuvvraaj’, a trade analyst said.
Ghai's previous films have also bombed at the box-office with the recent one being ‘Black & White’, which released in March this year. Kisna (2005) and Yaadein (2001) also fell flat at the box-office. This means Ghai's last successful film was ‘Taal’, which released in 1999.
