On your Knees
Visionary for Amrutha Mahotsava celebrations V Ravichandran cracks the whip on film stars at the risk of being called Hitler
It's back to school for the film fraternity that's been slogging it out at the rehearsals for their three-hour long performance, planned as part of the industry's 75th year celebrations. Actor-director V Ravichandran, who is in charge of the show, is a perfectionist and a stickler for time.
Blast forward
“He is extremely passionate about his work, and that's why he expects the same from everyone else. But when he doesn't see the same kind of passion, it is quite natural for him to lose his temper. He has been on the edge a couple of times, but the good news is that every one loves him enough to be sporting about it,” says our source.
Some of the big stars have had to hear a earful, because they weren't around during the initial days of the rehearsal. But they've all taken it in their stride. “Ravi sir was very strict initially. He wanted all of us to be perfect and punctual. He shouted at Pooja (Gandhi) on the mike, because she could not make it for the rehearsals during the first few days,” says our source.
Kneel down
It's a known fact that Ravichandran is extremely particular about time. “He had instructed every one to get to rehearsal by 9.30 am. There was about half an hour leeway given to the artistes. But any one landing up after 10 am would be punished and made to kneel. However, this too was taken in good spirit. There have been days when actors who've come in late would kneel down and apologise without even being asked to do so. Ravichandran is the master of the ship. Nobody else could have put together such a show, or command such respect from the stars,” explains another source.
Our own Hitler
The actor-director's strict approach to work has already earned him a few nicknames. “Some of them address him as 'Sir', 'Master' and some even call him 'Hitler'. But Ravi sir knows that it's all in good humour and at the end of the day, it's evident that he's the biggest sport of all,” adds the source.
