World strategic layout changing very fast, says Vice President

hamid ansariNew Delhi, Apr 29 : Vice President Hamid Ansari on Tuesday stressed upon the importance of good strategic thinking coupled with thoughtful planning in today’s unimaginatively fast changing world.

The Vice President was speaking at a function at his residence after releasing a book of Observer Research Foundation on 'Indian Army Vision 2020' authored by Brigadier (retired) Gurmeet Kanwal. The book has been published by HarperCollins India.

The Vice President lauded the author for his efforts in coming up with “this useful piece of work” in the arena of strategic thinking and planning.

Brigadier Kanwal said the Army must modernize its weapons and equipment and upgrade its combat potential by an order of magnitude in order to successfully face the new challenges.

He further said that in future, 80 to 90 percent chances are that wars would be fought in high altitude and mountainous terrains.

In the foreword of the book, General V. P. Malik, former chief of army staff and now president of the Institute of Security Studies, ORF, says that Indian Army, like most armies in the world, is highly traditional and therefore conservative in its attitude and outlook.

“It does not visualize and accept changes easily,” he writes. (ANI)
