Women commandoes to guard IGI Airport

Women commandoes to guard IGI AirportThe Indira Gandhi International Airport, the country's most sensitive airport, will soon be guarded by women commandoes.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is giving commando training to ten women personnel, who will be positioned at Delhi's IGI Airport to against any terrorist attack.

The development shows a change in the authorities thinking who have so far trained women police officers to frisk women.

A senior CISF official said, "Women are mostly hired out of compulsion because we need them to frisk women. But why should that be? We have started thinking differently and training them to do the job that our male commandos are doing."

The official added that the ten women were also being given training in unarmed combat as they will be required to perform diverse jobs ranging from patrolling to responding to an emergency.

This will be the first time that women commandos will be deployed positioned at the IGI Airport.

In Israel nearly one-third of defence force soldiers and around half the officers are women. Even Pakistan has deployed female commandos at its sensitive airports.
