Wipro To Establish Hydraulic Cylinders Facility In China
Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIE), the global hydraulics business of the IT giant, has joined hands with Wujin hi-tech Industrial Zone (WIZ) to establish a manufacturing plant at Changzhou city in China's Jiangsu province.
The Chinese facility will be Wipro's ninth such international plant to make high pressure precision hydraulic cylinders and tipping systems, using high-tech machinery for processes such as CNC machining, robotic welding, induction hardening etc.
But, WIE did not indicate the investment being made in the new facility.
Mr. Anurag Behar, WIE chief executive said, "We are foraying into China, which is the world's largest market for hydraulic cylinders and related products. We intend to be a preferred partner for the large equipment manufacturers with our latest technology and high quality offerings."
The Wipro facility will leverage the close by industrial regions to build up a strong vendor base for sourcing of raw materials and machined components.
Using the WIZ infrastructure facilities as well as support services, the company will make its presence felt in China market and strengthen the plant capacity later to emerge as a global manufacturing hub for the region.
"We will employ local managers, engineers and trained operators to run the high-tech machinery and equipment. A research and development facility will be set up soon to enable the centre design, develop and validate hydraulic cylinders for various industrial applications," Mr. Behar said.
According to company statement, the high pressure double acting cylinders will be supplied to makers of excavators, loaders, dozers, dumpers, motor graders and farm equipment.
The telescopic cylinders will meet up the requirements of tippers, dump trucks, refuse vehicles and garbage compactors.
Korean and Japanese majors such as Hyundai, Komatsu and Terex have invested in Changzhou, while Yuchai Heavy Industries and Liugong Group have set up operations in the WIZ.
"Changzhou has become a destination of choice for engineering in China and we believe Wipro will have a bright future here," Shen added. (With Inputs from Agencies)
