‘Wink’ hits the markets

AmazonNow Amazon Kindle is set to face competition by "Wink" which is supposed to be "India's first e-book reader". Launched by Bangalore based EC Media this device will be easily available at all electronic stores across India.

The company has even partnered with Croma to ensure its availability in the country.

On the content part also the company has bought around 2, 00,000 titles ranging from newspapers, magazines and journals.

It will also feature the books written in Indian languages like Hindi and Marathi which will be further extended to other languages as well.

These books will be priced at around Rs. 11,500 which is at 50 to 75 percent of the cost of a paperback. The device has a 6-inch screen that shows content using e-ink technology similar to the Kindle.

But it does not have an LCD display like the ipad making it unable the readers to read from it without the light. But simultaneously the device also scores high on its low power consumption as with a fully charged battery pack up of
1500 mAh battery; it can run for 300 hours continuously.

The company is expecting a good response for the product because it is two and a half times cheaper than other similar devices in the market and the Apple iPad.
