We do real cinema too but Boyle had a bigger platform

After Slumdog Millionaire's great win at the Oscars, Indian cinematic talent will gain more respect from audiences the world over. It has opened new avenues for our film industry. The film was directed by an internationally acclaimed director and that's why it achieved so much success. If an Indian director had made it, it would have indeed gained recognition but the intensity of this recognition would have been less. Indian directors see the problems of the common man too and this is reflected in the films made by Shyam Benegal, Shekhar Kapur and Mira Nair. But Boyle had a wider platform to showcase the story and he used it wisely. It is somewhat akin to an MP presenting a problem that his constituency faces in front of the Parliament, while an MLA gets to present it only in the Legislative Assembly. Now, people across the world will take Indian film industry and films seriously. Music has always been an integral part of Indian films and this fact is supported by the two Oscars that Rahman and Gulzar scooped at the Oscars.
