Volkswagen to launch its electric car soon
The largest carmaker in European market, Volkswagen is to launch its range in electric cars in India. As per the German Press Agency DPA, Volkswagen's e-version of Golf will hit the market by the year 2013. The German automaker has earlier decided to come up with a new product in the electric car range. At the beginning it has planned to bring its electric range with the city car Up with E-Golf and the E-Jetta to follow.
But now it has been confirmed that the company will commence with the E-Golf. The company is targeting to enter the electric car market ahead of rival carmakers and Golf is the most important model for the leading and popular car manufacturer.
Volkswagen's Chief Executive Officer Martin Winterkorn has announced that the company is looking to produce an electric car that can be affordable by every user from all segments. He has also said that the company is focusing on such innovative products.
Volkswagen is cooperating with companies like Toshiba and Sanyo of Japan as well as Chinese battery and car producer BYD. The company believes that the key of developing an electric car is the powerful and affordable lithium-ion batteries.
