U.S. stock indexes end week in green

U.S. stock indexes end week in greenClosing up at the end of trading on Friday, the major U. S. stock indexes finished the week in positive territory.

Finishing the day at 10,198.03, the Dow Jones industrial average gained 59.04 points, up 0.58 percent.

Picking up 21.05 points, 0.97 percent, the Nasdaq ended trading at 2,196.45 points.

The Standard & Poors 500 added 7.71 points, 0.72 percent, and closed at 1,077.96 points.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the DJIA finished the week up 5.3 percent, its best performance since the week ending July 17, 2009.

Analysts have said that stocks bounced back in the holiday-shortened week after the DJIA last week fell to its lowest point since October. The 4-day rally comes as investors express optimism about second quarter earnings reports.

Roy Williams, chief executive of Prestige Wealth Management, told the Journal, "The earnings are expected to again beat expectations as they have the past couple quarters but what they're looking for is the guidance. That will be the big indicator."

The listed volume on the New York Stock Exchange was 3.5 billion shares.

From Thursday's $1.2692, the euro fell to $1.2634. The dollar, against the yen, rose to 88.580 yen from Thursday's 88.39 yen. (With Inputs from Agencies)
