U.S. markets witnessed mixed results on Monday

U.S. markets witnessed mixed results on MondayWith investors still reacting to a lawsuit filed last week against Goldman Sachs, U. S. markets turned in mixed results on Monday.

The New York investment bank was charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission with selling mortgage-backed securities that were likely to fail because they had been secretly selected by a hedge fund manager who was betting heavily against the housing market.

By close, the Dow Jones industrial average, which had dropped 125 points on Friday, after the Goldman Sachs news, added 73.39 points, 0.67 percent, to 11,092.05, rebounding from mid-afternoon to the close.

Adding 5.39 points, The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.45 percent, to reach 1,197.52. The Nasdaq composite index was off 0.05 percent, or 1.15 points, to 2,480.11.

1,324 shares advanced and 1,681 declined on a volume of 6.5 billion shares traded, on the New York Stock Exchange.

The benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell 9/32, to yield 3.803 percent.

The euro fell to $1.3484 from Friday's $1.351. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 92.405 yen from Friday's 92.12 yen. (With Inputs from Agencies)
