US Federal Reserve releases new $100 banknote

US Federal Reserve releases new $100 banknoteThe US Federal Reserve has issued a new hi-tech $100 banknote that includes several new security features.

The new bank note includes a blue 3D security ribbon and a bell and inkwell logo for improved security as it will be very difficult to be replicated. The new features combined with traditional security features including portrait watermark and an embedded security thread that grows pink under ultraviolet light.

The 2010 design was delayed due to several production challenges, according to officials. A 3D security ribbon is woven into the note and it has images of 100s that changes into bells and move upwards or sideways depending upon the direction in which the note is held. Tilting the note also shows a green bell within a copper-coloured inkwell on the right of the ribbon. The 100 number at the bottom right-hand corner also changes from copper to green when the note is tilted.

The redesigned banknote has a portrait of US founding father and scientist Benjamin Franklin also as "intaglio" printing and micro-printed words. The US central bank said that more than a decade of research has gone into the development of the new bank note.
