Upcoming 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV gets 32 miles of EPA all-electric range

Kia Corporation, a South Korean multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Seoul, has confirmed that its upcoming 2022 Sorento PHEV has received an EPA all-electric range of 32 miles (52 km). The EPA combined all-electric range rating of 32 miles (52 km) for the 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV is 2 miles more than previously anticipated. Moreover, it is slightly better than that of a similar 7-seat PHEV model manufactured by Hyundai, called the Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV. It may be noted here that Kia and Hyundai are sister brands.

The Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV has EPA range of 30 miles (48 km). Thus, the new EPA rating for the 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV outshines its cousin, the 7-seat Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV, by a few miles. It is worth-mentioning here that the battery capacity of both PHEVs is 13.8 kWh.

The all-electric EPA combined range 32 miles for the 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV gets further enhanced when it comes to only city driving. In cities, it might achieve a slightly better result of around 34 miles, which is close to the WLTP range rating of 57 km (35 miles). More precisely, it offers all-electric range of 32 miles (51.5 km) combines, 33.77 miles (54.3 km) in cities, and 29.92 miles (48.1 km) on highways.

The upcoming Kia Sorento PHEV’s energy consumption in the all-electric mode has been pegged at 427Wh per mile or 265Wh per km. EPA energy consumption in all-electric mode in city has been pegged at 406 Wh per mile (252 Wh per km), while energy consumption on highways has been rated at 449 Wh per mile (279 Wh per km).

The 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV’s main specs includes 13.8 kWh battery, all-wheel drive (AWD) system with peak output of 265 ps and 350 Nm of torque. The 7-seat PHEV also features a 1.6-litre T-GDi (Turbocharged Gasoline Direct injection) engine, six-speed automatic transmission, electric motor producing 66.9 kW and 304 Nm torque, and a 3.3kW on-board charger. Cargo space for the 7-seat version of the PHEV has been pegged at 809L and175L with third row down and with all rows up, respectively. The 5-seat model comes with cargo space of 898L. To make the deal sweater, the manufacturer is offering seven-year or 100,000 miles warranty, which also covers the PHEV’s electric motor and battery pack.
