UN Secy Gen gives no timeframe to appoint panel to probe Benazir murder

Former Pakistan Premier Benazir BhuttoUnited Nations, Oct 8 : UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has reportedly declined to give a specific timeframe of appointing an Inquiry Commission to look into the assassination of PPP leader Benazir Bhutto.

He also clarified that the Commission to be appointed would be a fact-finding body and not an investigative body.

Appointing such a commission would take “a little bit more time”, the Dawn quoted the UN Secretary General as saying.

Addressing a press conference, he said that during his talks with President Asif Ali Zardari at UN Headquarters they agreed that there would be “some sort of a commission under the UN”.

Ban said that talks were continuing on technical matters, such as who should be appointed as members of the Commission, how it should be funded and its timeframe and scope, and added: “We’re trying to work out solutions. We’re still discussing it with the Pakistan government.” (ANI)
