UN appoints ‘Angry Birds’ leader Red to inspire climate action towards sustainable, happier future

Yesterday, the United Nations recruited Red, the leader of the ‘Angry Birds’ mobile game characters, as a representative for inspiring climate steps in the direction of a sustainable and happier future for everyone.

Red has been appointed the Honorary Ambassador for Green. The move is part of a UN campaign launched yesterday in collaboration with the worldwide renowned characters to make a direct association between dealing with climate change and happiness and well being of people on the occasion of the International Day of Happiness, which will be observed on March 20.

At a launch event at UN Headquarters in New York, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that the Angry Birds have been entertaining millions of people worldwide, and now they have become a part of the campaigns aimed at making the world a better place to live in.

Mr. Ki-moon said, “We are proud to give Red reason to go Green. There is no better way to mark International Day of Happiness than to have our animated ambassador raise awareness about importance of addressing climate change to create safer, more sustainable and happier future for all”.

The campaign is a joint work of Sony Pictures Entertainment, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Foundation. It asks people around the globe to make the Angry Birds happy by doing something to tackle climate change and by sharing their pictures and commitments on social media platforms along with the common hashtag #AngryBirdsHappyPlanet.

He added that for instance like recycling stuff, going to work on public transportation and saving water, individuals can share ideas and tips on life can be lived happily and sustainably and happily. Red under his ambassadorial duties is going to head on a ‘virtual world tour’ kicking off on 21st March, making public aware about the several ways of taking climate action.
