UK retail sales rise 0.2 per cent in JuneAccording to the latest figures released, UK retail sales have risen 0.2 per cent during the month of June as retailers were able to attract customers with attractive discounts.

The official data also showed that the sales rose 0.9 per cent during the second quarter of the year compared to the first quarter. The data released by the Office for National Statistics showed that the seasonally-adjusted sales in the non-specialized category rose 3 per cent compared to the previous month.

The ONS said, "Feedback from department stores suggested sales had increased due to promotions and consumers buying clearance items across a wide range of products."

The non-food sales volumes rose 0.6 per cent during the month of June compared to the previous month even as the sales in the textiles, clothing and footwear category fell 0.3 per cent. The total sales for food items were lower 0.1 per cent during the month compared to the previous month. Experts have said that the increasing retail sales have indicated that a consumer spending is strengthening in the UK and this may lead to a gradual recovery in the country.
