UK firm releases world’s longest aircraft

UK firm releases world’s longest aircraftBritish engineers have revealed the Britain's biggest aircraft hangar, which appears like a giant airship with gas-filled balloon on top.

The unique aerodynamic shape of the balloon means that it can lift into the air like an aeroplane. Experts have said that the aircraft can land with remote control with no-one on board and even on water if required. The aircraft has length of 302ft (92m) the new airship is about 60ft longer than the biggest airliners available in the aviation world today, the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8.

The aircraft is 30ft longer than the massive cargo-carrying Antonov An-225, and has now become the longest aircraft ever built. The aircraft costs about $100 million and the engineers behind the aircraft are planning an even bigger version that will be able to carry 50 tonnes. The company has received £2.5 million in government funding to develop technology and engineering for the project.

Business Secretary Vince Cable said, "We are jointly funding £2bn of research and development into the next generation of quieter, more energy efficient and environmentally friendly planes. That includes backing projects like Hybrid Air Vehicles' innovative low carbon aircraft which can keep us at the cutting edge of new technology."
