UK construction output rises 4% in August

UK constructionAccording to the latest figures released, the total UK construction output rose 4 per cent during the month of August compared to the same month of the previous year.

The UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS) said that the construction output rose at the rate of 1.9 per cent during the second quarter of 2013 compared to a fall of 1.3 per cent during the first quarter. The official data showed that sector has been volatile during the first two months of the third quarter as July recorded a growth of 2.8 per cent while August recorded a fall of 0.1 per cent.

The data showed that the seasonally adjusted volume of monthly construction output fell 0.1per cent during August 2013 compared to July 2013. The fall was due to a fall of 0.1 per cent in new work and repair and maintenance fell
0.2 per cent.

Private industrial recorded a rise of 3.9 per cent while private housing grew 1.6 per cent during the year. The 4.0 per cent increase in August 2013 over August 2012 was mainly due to a 5.5 per cent in new work. Data also showed that new housing increased by 16.7 per cent while infrastructure fell by 5.5 per cent compared to the same month of the previous year.
