UAE expects Russian cooperation on Chechen politician's death
Dubai - The United Arab Emirates has asked the Russian police for cooperation in the mystery of the death of a former Russian army commander in Dubai, the chief of Dubai Police said on Tuesday.
"We expect the Russian authorities to cooperate with Dubai's police to reach the murderers. Both authorities should intensify their efforts to bring such perpetrators to justice," General Dahi Khalfan Tamim said.
Sulaiman Yamadayev, a Chechen, was shot in the head Saturday afternoon in his building's parking lot in Dubai. He died of his wounds on Monday.
Tamim said that Yamadayev came to live in Dubai four month ago, after he retired.
"The crime shows that Yamadayev had been closely followed before he was assassinated," Tamim added.
On Tuesday, Emirati official news agency WAM reported that a Russian man had been arrested and was being questioned, but no further details were available. (dpa)
