Two supplying arms to Maoists arrested in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow, Oct 30 : Police in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district Friday arrested two men, who were allegedly members of a gang supplying arms and ammunition to Maoists and criminals.
"One of the arrested, Arvind Mandal, is a native of Bihar and the other, Mohammad Shoaib, is from Shrawasti district. The duo were caught with six high-quality country-made pistols and revolvers which they were going to supply to someone on the India-Nepal border," Bahraich's Additional Superintendent of Police V. P. Srivastava told IANS over phone.
During interrogation, the two confessed to supplying illegal arms and ammunition to Maoists in India and Nepal, he added.
"They also revealed that earlier this month, they delivered an assignment to a Nepalese Maoist area commander, Bheem," Srivastava said.
The police have also got vital clues about other members of their gang, including the gang leader, who are operating in the state as well as in Bihar and Jharkhand.
"We will be sharing the information with our counterparts in Bihar and Jharkhand and more arrests are likely soon," Srivastava said.(IANS)
