Two million pregnant ladies smoke tobacco, Health MinistryIt was appalling news for the Health ministry itself who found that around 8.5 percent women who are pregnant smoke tobacco. This figure is huge chunk of the current female population that is close to two million.

Jagdish Kaur, in-charge of the tobacco control programme in the health ministry, was shocked with such dreadful figure and claims that apart from the 61 tobacco cessation centres (TCC) in India; a combined effort has to be implied upon to spread awareness against the ill effects of Tobacco.

Figures from WHO claim that India is amongst the countries where the list of ex-tobacco users are less than five to six percent also, in Asia 40 million tobacco users are there and in India itself 30 million smoke this life taking addiction.

Pharmaceutical major Pfizer’s officials claim that thousand die due to smoking tobacco. The only way out curb this menace is the spreading of awareness and spreading message with a close collaboration with voluntary organisations and government in setting TCCs.
