Turkey's Erdogan maintains criticism of Israel

Recep Tayyip ErdoganAnkara - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday repeated his harsh criticism of Israel's military operations in Gaza following his dramatic walk out at a World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday night.

Erdogan denied that his walking out during a debate with Israeli President Shimon Peres was a diplomatic mistake, instead complaining of the way he, as the prime minister of Turkey, was treated during the debate.

"A new era has began. Turkey is not just any country. Turkey is large and important. Anyone who looks into history will see that," Erdogan said, adding that he had been irreverently treated.

Erdogan was referring to the way that he was cut off by the moderator of the debate.

The prime minister once again stated that he was against anti-Semitism but that the truth of what was happening in Gaza must be told.

"We are not blaming Israelis ... but instead those who directed (the invasion)," Erdogan said. (dpa)
