Ankara - Turkish President Abdullah Gul warned Tehran on Tuesday to review its political stance, ahead of setting off on a diplomatic visit to Iran.

Gul said the arrival of US President Barack Obama in the White House had been very important and that "all countries must rethink their policies," just prior to departing for neighbouring Iran.

The Turkish president also suggested a meeting in Tehran of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO).

"Without stability and security, economic growth is not possible," he warned.

Washington has already announced a change in policy regarding Tehran, suggesting direct talks would be possible between the US and Iran.

However, last week in Vienna the five UN Security Council permanent members plus Germany insisted that Tehran halt its uranium enrichment programme in order to pave the way for the end of UN sanctions and better economic ties and political relations. (dpa)
