Thousands of Lectric XP 3.0 e-bikes recalled to fix brake issue

Lectric eBikes, one of the world’s most prominent manufacturers of the electric bicycles (e-bikes), has confirmed that it is recalling a substantial number of the XP 3.0 e-bikes to address concerns related to the performance of the braking system. In its recall notice for the electric two-wheeler, the Lectric XP 3.0 e-bike’s mechanical disc brake calipers positioned on the front and rear can fail during rides, which could result in a loss of control, posing a risk of accidents. Nearly 45,000 units of the XP 3.0 e-bikes equipped with the aforementioned mechanical brakes were sold during the period spanning from November 2022 to May this year. The company has plans to recall all those units.

In the recently issued recall notice, Lectric states, “The mechanical disc brake calipers situated on the front and rear of the e-bike can experience failure, potentially leading to a loss of control and posing a risk of accidents and rider injuries.”

Thus far, at least four instances of brake failure due to the aforementioned defect in the braking system have already been reported. Unfortunately, two of these cases left the riders with multiple injuries.

Notably, the e-bike in question vanished from the market in May this year. In a bold move, the manufacturer took a decisive action and equipped these bikes with state-of-the-art hydraulic disc brakes. In addition, the company generously extended a thoughtful offer, providing existing owners of the XP 3.0 e-bike model with a complimentary upgrade kit. This decisive action underscores Lectric’s unwavering dedication to leaving no stone unturned in its quest to address & resolve the previous braking concerns.

As a proactive measure, Lectric recently issued a comprehensive service notice to one and all owners of the e-bike, providing them with detailed guidance on how to meticulously inspect & fine-tune their brakes. Of course, the company’s this step will empower riders to take charge of their e-bike’s safety.

To address the issue, the company has unveiled a user-friendly disc brake upgrade kit that has specifically been crafted for effortless installation. Most of the riders will find it a breeze as it takes just 10-15 minutes to complete. But for those who want a professional touch, the company has promised to foot the bill for its installation by an expert at a nearby e-bike shop. This generous action is to ensure the safety as well as peace of mind for all riders affected by the issue.
