Thousands for gamers gather in LA for Call of Duty conventionGamers in their thousands have reached Los Angeles this weekend to attend the first Call of Duty convention called, Call of Duty XP.

Gaming major behind the popular title, Activision has arranged the huge airplane hangars of Playa Del Rey and a sniper's shot from Electronic Arts' headquarters in the city. The hangers turned into multiplayer gaming centers and conference halls for Call of Duty XP 2011.

Activision also released its upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for fans, which were waiting for its release on November 8 this year. The company is allowing gamers to enjoy the multiplayer levels in preview play while David Vonderhaar, design director; Phil Tasker, senior level designer; Alex Conserva, lead programmer; and Dan Bunting, online director.

It also organized the international Call of Duty 3: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer tournament which ended with a team winning the $400,000 grand prize. The team named, Optic Gaming William "BigTymer" Johnson, Blake "Vengeance2T" Campbell, Joseph "Merc SD" DeLuca and Matthew "NaDeSHoT" Haag, bagged the prize money.

The tickers for the conventions costs $150 and proceeds are sent to the nonprofit Call of Duty Endowment for war veterans. Apart from these, there were many other events celebrating the best-selling military shooter series.
