There are things about government that I miss: Cheney
Washington, Apr. 22 : Former US Vice President Dick Cheney has revealed that there are still things about working in the government that he misses.
In an interview to Fox News, Cheney said that while he did not feel bad about retiring, “I spent 40 years in government and there are things about it I miss.”
“I also love some time with the family, our kids and grandkids all live within about 15 minutes of our home here in McLean. We get time in Wyoming, and a place over on the Eastern Shore. I''ve got some fishing trips lined up for this summer. So life is good,” he added.
He admitted that he has had to make adjustments in his life after leaving the office of Vice-President.
“Well, there are adjustments, but this is not my rodeo, so to speak. This is the fourth time I''ve gone through this process from leaving a government job and going into the private sector,” Cheney said.
When asked for his comments on the Obama Doctrine, he said: “Admittedly, look, we''re what, three months into the new administration? A lot has happened. I''ll give President Obama credit that he''s dealing with big issues. I''ve seen administrations come to town and only deal with the little ones. You know, he''s confronting a lot of major concerns here, and he''s the only president we''re going to have for the next four years, so we hope he''s got some degree of success.”
“On the other hand, if you sit down and you look at the policies, and analyse where this administration''s going and what they seem to be dedicated to trying to achieve, I think a lot of Americans, myself included, certainly, have major questions about that, or major views that don''t think those are the proper courses of action that we ought to be following. And I think we need to speak out on that. I think there needs to be a national debate. There should be a national debate,” he added.
Cheney said that he did not find it surprising that he was being criticised for his outspokenness against the policies of the Obama administration, but added: “I''ve been careful not to get personal in terms of my criticisms for my comment, but I think the issues are simply too important for the future of the nation for us to operate as though those of us who disagree somehow shouldn''t speak out and be heard. I think we need to be heard.” (ANI)
