Thai shares nose up 2.74 per cent

Bangkok  - Thai shares rose 2.74 per cent Tuesday in a slight rebound that underperformed most other Asian markets.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index ended at 398.04 points, up 10.61 points or 2.74 per cent.

The SET crashed 10.5 per cent on Monday, forcing a 30-minute circuit breaker on trading. Although the Bangkok bourse inched up Tuesday, it was far from regaining Monday's losses and well below Hong Kong's rise of more than 14 per cent.

"There are only short-term players in the market who sell as soon as they make a small profit," said Mongkol Phuangphaetha, an analyst at Atkinson Securities.

"There is no good news for the Thai market," he added. (dpa)
