Tesla emerges North America’s top-seller of rechargeable vehiclesAccording to reports, Tesla Motors (TSLA) has emerged as the leading seller of rechargeable vehicles in the North American market ahead of General Motors' plug-in Volt and Nissan's battery-powered Leaf.

The company had recently said that its first-quarter net income excluding some items rose to 12¢ a share during the first quarter of the year compared to a loss of 76¢ recorded in the same period of the previous year. Analysts were expecting the company to record a net income of 4¢ per share during the first quarter from January to March, 2013.

Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk wrote in a letter to shareholders that,  "Importantly, we are seeing orders in a particular region increase proportionate to the number of deliveries, which means that customers are selling other customers on the car. Given that we have not yet delivered any customer cars outside of North America, there would appear to be significant upside potential in Europe and Asia."

Tesla's 2013 target of 21,000 Model S deliveries is more than the combined global volume for Ferrari, Lamborghini (NSU), and Maserati. The 10-year old company has recorded an increase of 150 per cent in tis shares this year and 57 per cent just this month. The company as able to add more than $3 billion in market value in just one week of great media coverage for the company.
