Teenager attacks teacher in Delhi school
New Delhi, Oct 23 : In a shocking incident, a teenager Friday attacked a 53-year-old woman teacher inside the classroom of a state-run school in east Delhi. The attacker managed to escape.
Bitti Bhan was in her chair in Class 2B of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) girls school in Trilokpuri area of Mayur Vihar phase II area when she was attacked with a knife.
Police said the attacker, who appeared to be lean and aged anywhere between 18-19, had muffled his face with a piece of cloth.
"Asking twice 'which is Class 4', the attacker entered the class and assaulted Bhan who was sitting on her chair. She suffered injuries on her left thigh," said an investigating officer. Police said attack was made around 11.35 a. m. and the accused managed to flee from the school.
After the attack, scared schoolgirls started screaming and a bleeding Bhan was removed to the nearby Lal Bhadur Shastri Hospital. "She was discharged after stitches and primary treatment," the officer said.
Bhan said she had no enemies. "It just came to me as surprise," she told reporters.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police O. P. Mishra said they were looking for the attacker.
"We are trying to find out reason behind such attack. So far we are just groping in dark as the teacher has ruled out any personnel rivalry with anyone. We are investigating the matter from all possible angles," he said.
Asked how the boy managed to get inside the class room unopposed, Mishra said the school premises has an ayurvedic dispensary and for the both have a common entrance.
"The entry inside the school is unrestricted," he said.
Some locals claim that there were two attackers and they wanted to snatch the gold chain from the school teacher, but police denied all such claims.
Police were also probing whether Bhan was the actual target. "The boy was asking about Class 4, it is also possible that he wanted to attack someone else and out of fear he attacked Bhan. We are looking at all possibilities," said another police officer.(IANS)
