India set to buy 250,000 XO laptops from OLPC (One Laptop Per Child)

Struggling in the recent times, the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) project in India has got big boost, with the Government of India signing agreement with the organization to buy 250,000 XO laptops of the organization.

India has placed order for 250,000 OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) XO laptops for its schools, after its own $10 laptop project has failed. India has realized that it is virtually impossible to develop a $10 laptop, and thus has decided to go for the OLPC’s cheaper laptops.

Britannia Industries inks pact with Mauritius-based firm to acquire stake

britanniaThe 117-year-old biscuit major Britannia Industries has entered into an agreement with Fonterra Brands (Mauritius Holding) Ltd, Mauritius, for acquiring the latter's 49% Equity and Preference shareholding in Britannia New Zealand Foods Pvt. Ltd (BNZF), their joint venture company engaged in Dairy business.

With this acquisition, Britannia along with its wholly owned subsidiary will hold the entire equity and preference capital of BNZF. The acquisition is subject to Reserve Bank of India approval.

United Spirits Q4 net profit dips 14.57%

United SpiritsUnited Spirits, the largest spirit and liquor company in India, has registered decline of 14.57 per cent in its net profit to Rs 55.62 crore in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2009.

The company registered a net profit of Rs 65.11 crore in the same quarter ended March 31, 2008.

However, the total income of the company has surged to Rs 922.90 crore for the quarter under review, as against Rs 765.46 crore in the same quarter last fiscal.

For the year ended March 31, 2009, the company has posted a net profit of Rs 297.23 crore against Rs 311.28 crore last fiscal, down 4.51 per cent.

Biocon Q4 net profit plunges 61%

BioconBiocon Ltd, a fully integrated healthcare company that delivers innovative biopharmaceutical solutions, has registered 61% decline its net profit to Rs 24.14 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2009, against Rs 62.03 crore reported during the same quarter ended March 31, 2008.

In addition, company's total income for the quarter has also increased to Rs 239.84 crore from Rs 236.71 crore during the same quarter in 2007-08.

For the financial year ended March 2009, the company posted a net profit after tax of Rs 111.81 crore, down 74 per cent against Rs 434.94 crore in FY'08.
