ISRO to launch weather satellite Megha Tropiques soonThe Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) would launch a weather satellite, the 'Mehga Tropiques' in coming times. The satellite has been developed by collaboration of Indian and French space agency CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales). It has been specially designed to analyze tropical study and causes of cyclones, monsoons, and other climate and weather related phenomenon.

India signs bi-lateral labor agreement with Malaysia

India signed a bi-lateral labour mobility agreement with Malaysia on Sunday. The deal was signed by overseas Indian affairs minister Vayalar Ravi and Malaysian Human resources minister Dr. S Subramaniam in Delhi.

The agreement would help to develop efficient mechanism for legal immigration and recruitment of workforce. It would also control human trafficking by agents. According to estimates, about 1.5 million Indian workers are working in Malaysia.

A Joint Working Group of officials from both countries has also been formed to implement the terms and conditions of deal in better spirit. It would meet every year to review the administrative progress of agreement.
 

Transporters to go on strike from Monday

Transporters to go on strike from MondayAll India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) would start nationwide strike from Monday. Transporters have been demanding decline in diesel price by Rs 10 per litre and uniform VAT of 4 per cent on fuel.

They alleged that government failed to save the interest of transporters while announcing special measures for other sectors in the recent stimulus package. Government should immediately pass benefits of reduction in prices of crude in international market to customers. It may be recalled that international crude rates currently stand at $38 from peak level of $147 during August 2008.

Indian Exports likely to decline further: Moody'sProminent credit rating agency Moody’s forecasts large scale decline in Indian export within next six months. Indian exports will decrease following decline in demand in markets of developed nations including US and European countries.

Painting a gloomy picture for year 2009, Moody added, "A sharper slowdown in exports is expected in the first half of 2009, putting more downward pressure on the trade balance."

The 30 share index, Sensex gained 629.3 points to 9,958.22 during the week, which ended on January 02, 2009. In contrast, the broad based NSE Nifty made 189.5 points to 3,046.75 during the same period.
