New Delhi, Aug 11 : President Pratibha Patil today congratulated Abhinav Bindra for winning the gold medal in the men''s 10-metre air rifle event at the Beijing Olympic Games.
New Delhi, Aug 12 : Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju today felicitated National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets who will participate in the 62nd Independence Day function at the Red Fort on Friday.
In his brief address, Pallam Raju commended the children for their patriotism, zeal and excitement.
The Minister hoped that the cadets, who represent the India of the future, would keep the tricolour flying high and safeguard the hard fought freedom. He appreciated the cadets for their turnout, braving sweating heat and humidity.
Dharamsala, Aug 11 : Continuing with their agitation against China, Tibetan nuns and monks here staged a protest today.
Around 30 nuns and monks from the Dhomalin nunnery sat in silent protest against Chinese atrocities inside Tibet.
The protesters said they were not against Olympics as generally believed but were protesting against the human rights violation by the host country, inside Tibet.

The lecture is expected to be attended by several dignitaries and guests.

The occasion was the 66th anniversary of the Quit India Movement, a deciding phase in India's freedom struggle that finally led to the independence from British rule.
Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh were also present on the occasion.
Freedom fighters, however, expressed contrasting views on the country's progress since independence.
