Airtel launches IPTV facility in the country By launching Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), Bharti Airtel has become the first private player to offer the service in the country.

The company will now offer triple play service - telephony, broadband and television over a single line to customers in the NCR and will be followed by eight leading metros. The service will also offer features such as real-time interactivity, where customers can order pizzas and book movie tickets on their TV, record programmes for seven days, rewind, forward, and Movie on Demand (MOD).

India will continue to be a magnet for FDI funds: Kamal Nath

Kamal NathNew Delhi, Jan 19 : Commerce Minister Kamal Nath today said that even in the current global crisis, India will continue to be a magnet for foreign direct investment
(FDI) funds.

Addressing the Partnership Summit 2009 "Trade and Investment: Focussing on Opportunities and Growth", here today, the Minister said that during April-October 20008, the FDI inflows to India stood at 18.7 billion dollars, which is more than double the inflow during the same period last year.

Police battle gangsters in Delhi, four injured

India MapNew Delhi - At least four gangsters were injured in a gunbattle with police in an upmarket area of the Indian capital New Delhi on Monday, police said.

Notorious gangster Satya Prakash was among those admitted to a state-run hospital after the shoot-out in the Green Park area of southern Delhi, Ajay Kashyap, joint commissioner of police, Southern Range, told reporters.

Satya Prakash, who is believed to have been behind a string of bank robberies in and around Delhi in recent months, was in a car with three associates when he was intercepted by police teams.

EC to hold consultations with Chief Secretaries, DGP of all states, UTs

On February 3, the Commission will hold a discussion with all recognised seven National and forty State parties on various issues.

Petroleum Secretary calls for enhancement of hydrocarbon productivity

oil sector cooperationNew Delhi, Jan 19 : Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary R. S. Pandey today called for enhancing efficiency in the productivity of the hydrocarbon sources of energy.

Inaugurating the Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight 2009 (OGCF 2009) here today, Pandey emphasised that India should emulate the example of Japan which has improved hydrocarbons productivity over a period of time and achieved about three times more than the global average.

He informed that India was somewhat better than West Asia. "We have to move towards the standards of Japan", he stressed.

Delhi to host National Conference of Housing/Urban Development Ministers tomorrow

The Ministry is organising a conference in order to discuss and deliberate the revival of the state housing boards, cooperative and group housing construction and also the issue of making available land for housing at affordable prices.
